From Frustration to Solution – Coredo was formed out solve idiocrasy and lack of pride in the Software Development Industry

Coredo was from from sheer frustration to ideocracy in IT-industry. We wanted to build a high quality company where people work – not resources.

Coredo’s root have been planted by owners while working at the world’s leading IT consultancy called Accenture. While working there, we got to experience how well the company combined Management Consulting, System Implementation and Outsourcing Services for the world’s largest enterprises. It was a pride to be part of a company that could take on the largest Digital Transformation projects in the world and work with customers all the way from planning to execution and outsourcing.

But while working at Accenture, often I started to wonder that where do mid-sized international companies go to buy highly skilled IT consulting service to help them become more competitive in the market and help them leverage latest software technology innovation. While exploring it, it became even more evident that mid-sized companies are pretty much screwed in the IT industry.

Very common practice is that companies buy a Management Consultant to come in, help CEO and the directors to draft out a Digital Transformation strategy and tells them what to do to go where the company wants to go. That is all good, but how do you execute it? How is responsible for the plan? How much does it cost? How long does it take?

The more I kept thinking about it, the worse it looked like. Why do companies have isolated Management Consultant give beautiful strategies, but are not held responsible for implementing them? How could they be held responsible since they have no capabilities to deliver the strategical change planned?

Second problem that I saw in the market was that the world was about to change (this was in 2012) with better mobile internet speeds, much much more powerful mobiles phones, but software developers innovating the future were treated as resources, not as PEOPLE. This is still the problem to date in our industry and when you think about, you should now feel a pinch in your heart realizing how common it is to talk about resources when we should be talking about PEOPLE instead.

From these problem standpoints we decided to start Coredo with a long-term goal of becoming the internationally recognized Digital Transformation partner for mid-sized companies.

If you work long enough in the IT-industry, you’ll notice how everyone is talking about resources – not people. That is total idiocrasy when you think about the fact that all software is written by humans, not robots. We think that writing code is creative and it’s like painting – everyone does is with their own style. That is why the best software development teams are formed by people who play a key role in the common outcomes.

Our roots are in sports where Coredo’s founder Joona Puhakka competed in three Olympic Games. Our co-owner, Petri Kämäräinen, has run 23 marathons and build a floorball team that rose from lower divisions to the main league. With our sports in heritage, we surely know that EXECUTION is the true differentiation between success and failure. We imply these learnings in Coredo’s way of working and it gives us a unique edge to help our customers achieve more.

What is wrong with current market?

Current market is driven by software development companies that call themselves forerunners of digital business while they are more like resource-for-hire companies with no commitment to customer’s business growth. This has led to a situation where a lot of software development related projects are bought without understanding that the development partner hasn’t committed to any outcomes. Usually this leads to a situation where estimated budget was heavily passed, product launch drastically delayed, and the customer is left in a situation of no knowledge what it takes to get out of it.

How are we solving the problem?

We commit to long-term goals and want to become a “trusted partner” for our customers. When we jointly understand the business goals and environment of our customers, we can help to build roadmaps that are realistic to execute, we can constantly study the technical environment seeking for improvements and build the right kind of skills to the team working for our customers. Once we understand the the long-term goals, we can make right choices in software development and that way enable our customers business growth.
